Why winter workouts are tricky in India
Indian winters are not one climate. A 6 AM walk in Delhi or Lucknow can start at 7–8°C, while Mumbai or Bengaluru mornings sit closer to 16–20°C. Most of us also move between cold outdoors and heated or air-conditioned gyms within the same hour.
That swing is the real problem. Dress too warm and you are drenched ten minutes in. Dress too light and your muscles stay stiff through the warm-up. Layering solves both.
The 3-layer rule for winter workouts
Layer 1: The base (next to skin). This layer moves sweat away from your body. Choose a supportive sports bra and a fitted tee or full-sleeve top in a polyester-spandex blend. The Core Compression Full Sleeve top works well here, because the full sleeves keep your arms warm without adding bulk. Pair it with the Elevatefit Bra underneath.
Layer 2: The warmth (for outdoor sessions). On truly cold mornings, add a soft, lined mid layer. The Limitless Pullover and Limitless Pant are built for exactly this: warm enough for a brisk walk, light enough that you do not feel padded. Skip this layer for indoor gym sessions.
Layer 3: The shell (comes off first). A zip-up jacket keeps you warm while you stretch and warm up, then comes off once your heart rate climbs. The Cloud Sports Jacket and Active Jacket are both easy to tie around your waist or throw in a gym bag. For more on choosing one, read our guide on how to choose a gym jacket for Indian weather.

5 winter workout mistakes to avoid
-
Wearing a cotton tee as your base. Cotton absorbs sweat and stays wet, which chills you the moment you stop.
-
Wearing your heaviest sweater. You will overheat within minutes and end up carrying it.
-
Skipping the warm-up because you feel cold. Cold muscles are stiffer, so give yourself 8–10 minutes of easy movement before anything intense.
-
Leaving your wet layers on after the workout. Change your top as soon as you can, or put your dry jacket on over it.
- Forgetting hands and ears on very cold mornings. Light gloves and a headband make a big difference for little weight.
On smoggy days, move indoors
In many North Indian cities, winter also brings poor air quality. On days when the AQI is high, swap your outdoor walk or run for an indoor session: a strength circuit, yoga or Pilates. The same base layer works; just leave the outdoor layers at home.
Build your winter workout kit
You do not need a new wardrobe for winter. Start with one full-sleeve base top, one warm set for walks, and one jacket. Everything else you already own for the gym still works underneath.
FAQs
Should I wear leggings or track pants for winter workouts?
Leggings are better for running and gym training because they move with you and do not flap. Lined track pants are better for walks and cooler mornings when warmth matters more than speed.
Is it okay to work out in a jacket?
Yes, for warm-up and low-intensity work. Take it off once you start sweating so your base layer can do its job.
What should I wear for a winter morning walk?
A fitted full-sleeve top, a warm lined pant or pullover set, and a light zip-up jacket. Add gloves if it is below 10°C.
Can I wear the same activewear in winter and summer?
Your base layers, yes. Moisture-wicking sports bras, tees and leggings work all year; you simply add warm layers on top in winter.
